Art Gallery: Reinvention Convention 2013

I am so excited every year to take part in a local fundraiser that my town's Goodwill Store does! It is called "Reinvention Convention" and it is an art show! I sign up to be an artist every year. When I sign up I get vouchers to buy supplies in the Goodwill Store. Then I make something clever and creative with the treasures I find. Then they put on a fancy Gallery show and the public can come see and vote. Each vote raises much needed funds for Goodwill and all that they do for the community.

This is what I found to use as supplies! (There is a pendulum clock to the right that got cropped out)

My supplies for Reinvention Convention 2013!
And here is what I made with it all! Tada! I believe each work of art finds its meaning in the interpretations from each onlooker. I'll share with you MY feelings on it, but feel free to "see" something in it I don't. I feel it represents that through the "game" of our life we have many ups and downs. As "time" passes we live through risks, gambles, learning, and choices. Throughout it all we are never alone because our faith is there and Angels are watching over us.

My Finished Piece! Reinvention Convention 2013.
The clock dial and pendulum were not working so I disassembled them. I used that space to feature the Angel I fell in love with and planned this project around. I covered the wood base for this area with fabric from a metallic purse. The Angel fit perfectly over the knob for the hands of the clock. I added a glittery flower bead I cut from the tiny wire basket I bought.

I was able to incorporate the board game "Monopoly" into my clock be putting then in the shadow box house/school shape I found and painted white. I wanted the house/school to symbolize where we spend a lot of "time" in our life. Since the main clock was not working I was able to find a smaller clock that I took the base off of and it fit inside. I just had to scrap some of the etching off from the glass so that it could be seen. So, this clock is now a work of art that STILL tells time! :)

At the top of my clock there was a wooden fluer that was damaged. I removed it and used that space to feature the dice from the Monopoly game and some more of the glitter flowers. This area represents the risks and gambles we take in life.

Overall I am very happy with how my project turned out. I hope the Art Gallery sells it and raises some good money for this fundraiser. What do you think about my project? What is your artistic interpretation?

Later Sk8R Layout #2
Welcome to he "NEW Product Blog Hop"! This hop features all NEW products from the recently released Spring/Summer 2013 Idea Book! If you arrived here from Haley's Blog then you are on the right track!

The products that my layout features are the NEW paper pack and kit titled "Later Sk8R". It is perfect for showcasing my highly active son! This title piece was create by swiping the edges of my ink pads for color and texture. I cut letters with cricut Artiste cartridge.

I LOVE these new Tiny Type Epoxy Alphabet letters! They are such a cute way to add sub titles! Very quick and easy!

I used the stamp set that comes with the Workshop On The Go Kit to create these accents.

The colors and textures in this paper pack have high impact and great energy! Great for many page themes including out door adventures, camping, hiking, bike riding, family reunions, and you get the idea!

Hope you have enjoyed seeing my project and peek at the new book!

Now hop on over to Wendy's Blog to see what she has created!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day to you!

I wanted to share what I helped the kids make to take to school with them and share. I had found this idea on Pinterest and promptly saved it to my Valentine Board! This year I needed something that was quick and easy to mass assemble. Step 1: Take a cute photo of your child holding their fist close to the camera. Step 2: Add text that says "Happy Valentine's Day". Step 3: Print Photos. Step 4: Cut slits at the top and bottom of the fingers of the fist. Step 5: Lace in a sucker. And we are done and have a super cute Valentine with clever impact!

I wrote "From" in the back corner and had my son add his own name next to it. He had fun getting to have an official job that he could tell was important.

The kids are at school right now enjoying their Valentine's party! Hope that had fun handing out their Valentines!

Happy Heart Day!

Later Sk8R Scrap Layout #1

"Later Sk8R" Layout #1- Altered from "Mystify" pattern in Magic Book
I could not wait to get this new paper pack from Close To My Heart out on my craft space! "Later Sk8R" features plaid pattern and Lagoon teal color! I knew right away it would be perfect to scrapbook my son's first day of Preschool! For my first layout that I created with the Workshop On The Go Kit, I used the sketch called "Mystify" from the Magic Book. (I made some measurement changes to fit my photos in).

My son was so distracted by his excitement for preschool that he forgot to ham it up and actual stood still for this photo!

I used the diamond plate texture stamp from the kit to create a grey on grey backdrop for where my title is placed.

I used my NEW Artiste Cricut Cartridge to create my title letters in Outdoor Denim Cardstock. I added the spoxy letters for sub-titles under the headline.

This "Hello" stamp is from one of the 3 stamp sets that came with my Artiste Cartridge. I felt it was a good fit for a first day of school and meeting new people.

List of Supplies:

  • Later Sk8R Workshop On The Go Kit
  • Cricut Artiste Cartridge for text and hello stamp base
  • Grey Ink
  • Tiny Epoxy Alphabet
Hope you have had fun seeing what I made with my Later Sk8R kit. Stay tuned for more. This is one of 4 layouts we will create at the March 9th Scrap Class! Contact me for more information if you can join us!
